Erdal Duman is the proud Dean of the Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Middle School. Mr. Duman started working at Syracuse Academy of Science in 2008 as the 7th grade Science teacher and high school Chemistry classes. He also helped students who were getting ready for the Science Olympiad competitions. He taught Zoology and Robotics (Lego Mindset) classes. Mr. Duman missed Summer Institute the first year; however, he enjoyed attending and learning new skills from colleagues and administrators in the following years. During his time teaching Science, several students participated in the Science Fair. One scholar was awarded for going to INTEL Science Fair by winning the local competition, which was held at the MOST Museum. Mr. Duman accompanied the student to Los Angeles, where more than one thousand students participated from all over the world, including Europe, Asia, and America.
In the 2012-13 school year, Mr. Duman was a part-time Science Teacher and College Guidance Counselor. His passion is to guide our scholars toward Colleges and career paths. He believes students appreciate when they are pointed in the right direction. In 2013, Mr. Duman moved to Utica after accepting an administrator position. He immediately started working with the teachers and students and completed several home visits to meet the student's families. Mr. Duman also enjoyed taking students to indoor soccer games and supporting the team.
Mr. Duman earned a Bachelor's Degree from Istanbul University and an Educational Leadership Master's from Touro College. Mr. Duman is pursuing doctoral education in "Instructional Technology," which will be helpful to our school's vision. He helps teachers and colleagues with technology to be more effective in their classroom teaching.
His long list of accomplishments includes Restorative Justice in Schools (Tiers 1, 2, and 3). Touro College Masters Degree, and 2021 Kevon Mitnick Security Awareness Training.
