Dr. Tolga Hayali is the proud Superintendent of Science Academies of New York Charter Schools. Dr. Hayali started as a school director at Syracuse Academy of Science (SAS) Charter School in 2008, serving 340 students in grades 7-12. Since then, SAS has expanded and replicated. As of August 2022, Superintendent Dr. Hayali is responsible for managing and administering four K-12 charter schools. Including eight buildings serving more than 2600 urban children with 360 staff in three cities (Syracuse, Rochester, and Utica) called Science Academies of New York Charter Schools (SANY). He has been an educator for 27 years, starting as a chemistry teacher and then assuming several administrative roles, founding and running charter schools.

For the past 15 years, Dr. Hayali has been accountable for defining the vision, goal setting, and strategic planning with SANY’s stakeholders and leadership /management of all educational, administrative, and operational functions of the schools. Dr. Hayali initiated a successful home-visit program across the whole school that has strengthened the student-parent-teacher triad. He focuses on building partnerships with community organizations and higher-education institutions to foster support for programming, educational initiatives, and relationship-building between students and the community. Dr. Hayali’s selfless and effective service in education has been recognized by United States Congress relative to his service in education in the Greater Utica area; the New York State Assembly, through its Education Award; an Image Award from the Syracuse/ Onondaga Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; and recognition by the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the United Way as one of the 100 community heroes to thank and recognize for making strides throughout the Mohawk Valley.

An accomplished educator and administrator, Dr. Hayali received his M.A. and C.A.S. in School Counseling from SUNY Oswego, an executive MA in Public Administration from The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, and a Doctorate of Education, Leadership, Management, and Policy in K-12 School Administration from Seton Hall University. Dr. Hayali completed the Certificate of Advanced Study Conflict Resolution, Certificate of Advanced Study in Leadership in International and Non-Governmental Organizations, and the National Security Fellow program at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He also received his Certification in Project Management and is a recipient of the CProjMgrSU designation from the Central New York Manufacturing Association and Syracuse University. He is also certified in society human resource management (SHRM). He completed the Executive Leadership program at Harvard Kennedy School (H.K.S.) and received his Public Leadership Certificate, Public Policy and Economic Development, and he completed the Senior Fellow program also through H.K.S.

Dr. Hayali resides with his wife and four children in Fayetteville, New York. He enjoys reading, spending time with family, walking, and volunteering. His favorite quote is, “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” by Friedrich Nietzsche.
