SANY Scholars at UAS Earn College Degrees Before High School Graduation

Six SANY Scholars Earn Associates Degree from MVCC

Friday, May 15th, 2026: Six outstanding scholars from the Science Academies of New York at Utica Academy of Science achieved a remarkable milestone by earning their college degrees from Mohawk Valley Community College before even walking across the stage for their high school graduation.

This accomplishment reflects not only the dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence of these scholars but also the strength of SANY’s college preparatory model. As a district committed to preparing students for success in college, career, and citizenship, SANY actively encourages scholars to take advantage of advanced coursework, dual enrollment, and college-credit-bearing classes while still in high school.

Through these opportunities, students can challenge themselves academically, gain real college experience, and, in some cases, earn associate degrees before completing high school. The success of these six scholars highlights the effectiveness of this approach and the strong support systems in place across SANY schools.

Balancing the demands of high school coursework with college-level expectations requires focus, discipline, and resilience. These scholars have demonstrated all of these qualities, setting a powerful example for their peers and representing SANY's mission with pride.

We are thankful to MVCC fir their partnership and collaboration. SANY congratulates these exceptional students on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to all they will continue to accomplish in college and beyond.
